I just finished my post on Calvin Harris and Khalid songs and was wondering what the entertainment scene in Nigeria was like and I bumped into an instagram post by one of the leading entertainment news carriers. The post suggested that the fan base of Wizkid and Duncan mighty are having war of words on social media. I have been a follower of their music since Secondary school. Duncan mighty was once in my village when he released his first studio album which was a banger and I can say anywhere, Duncan Mighty is a global brand with real talent. For Wizkid I got to know him after secondary school in 2010 and you know better than I know that his talent is unquestionable. These two men are good musician who are having their rains at different times. They came together to make fake love and my friend the song is lit. Talent added to talent is talent multiplied and I am begging the people who having baseless arguments to stop.
Duncan is a business man who understands times and seasons and that can be said of Wizkid too. When you are no affecting the market like you used to or you want to gain a new kind of love, all you need do is to do something different. Duncan has always been an artist who thrives on his own with maybe only two songs which he featured Timaya and Puskayana. He is like an old version of Kizz Daniel. Duncan is one Nigerian’s best lyricist because most of his song have some real moral messages. If he has done 100 songs for example he must have 95 of those song having mad messages. He has been having problems making his song go viral so he did something different. He featured the hottest brand of Nigeria in terms of music at the moment which is Wizkid. Now don’t get me wrong Duncan could have featured some other artist but every person in his shoe who is wise will understand why he made the best decision. And it is not because he is a local champion like one fan blunted out. Duncan is a business man, not just in music but in other trades. Gossips in the Niger Delta claims he is into business with companies from the Middle East and because of that he soft pedaled on his music. I started hearing some new singles from him in late 2016 and intensified his in 2017 and bam! 2018 he has a dope song.
For Wizkid, he has been on a roller coaster strictly music ride for eight to nine years straight. He took his music of the boundaries of Nigeria and he has made name. Wizkid of late has been trying to balance up things in Nigeria and America/the world and he used the Duncan Mighty’s song to solidify his position. What Wizkid did with Duncan is like working with a living Legend in Nigerian pop music. There are not too many people with the kind of personality Duncan has. Duncan does not fight for the bread with the kids just like many artist who they came into the music seen together. Instead he knows how to take the musical grid by dishing out nice sound from time to time. Wizkid and his team saw this and took advantage. Wizkid has so far featured in three videos with other artist he has sang with. Shady’s and MHD’s songs and Fake love is the last. Wizkid understands that in entertainment you do it with the best in the job
I read one of the tweets which suggested that Duncan mighty was a local Champion before Wizkid elevated him to his new status because of the hit single they made together. To clear that notion first; it was Wizkid’s international brand name Star boy that featured Wizkid. This means that the services of Duncan Mighty was asked for in the making of the hit single “fake love”. So on paper documents regarding this song, Duncan was not looking for the job but the job looking for him. If Colombia music features Lionel Richie and Chris brown or Sony music features Dana Rose Cardi B or Hypertek digital features 2face and Kizz Daniel, it’s on same level as Starboy featuring Wizkid and Duncan Mighty. Duncan is not a Wizkid and Wizkid is not a Duncan. They run their music trade in different ways. They made a good hit and they both benefited from it. Duncan is not the musician that will headline a show like Wizkid because he has businesses he is running hence he just wants to stay relevant in the music scene. Wizkid on the other hand will like to do music with the greatest in the music industry so as to make more money and win more fans hence his work with Duncan Mighty. They both are eating from fruit of a well planted seed which is producing fruits like Nigerian Mango after a very dry Harmatan season.
