LDN, Cracker Malow, Swaps; Dominating the producers list, 2020 Nigerian Music Review
Modern digital music have been growing over the past three decade. Nigeria have had their own share of good music coming from digital production. Many a time, people forget that a bulk of the work done in the creation of the songs we listen to today is made by the music producers. These individuals determine the percussion, strings, horns and general mood, tempo and bump of the music.
Nigeria have had a lot of music producers over the years but just like musician, a particular or set music producers always dominate the airways each year. For example, When MasterKraft blew into limelight he was the hottest in those days. Same can be said of Producers like Sarz, Yung Jon, Pheelz, Samklef, Rexxie, DJ Coublon and a host of others. However in 2020, three names became the talk of many people. Whether in terms of beat sequencing, song arrangement, mastering, mixing or even writing. These names are LDN(London), Cracker Mallo, and Sound Engineer Swaps.
LND(London)
With Nigerian music evolving into a global sound with Afro alternate sound being the core of the sound in 2020, LND became a major player in crafting some of the biggest projects of 2020. Working with names like Tiwa Savage, Ceeza Milli, Wizkid and a host of others, LND solidified his name as a force in the Nigerian music industry. Songs like Koroba and Gyrate are songs that received many positive reviews from musicians, producers and fans around the world. His ability to blend different elements of Nigeria music to digital sound was unique but with a higher influence of western vibes. And just like everyone who have become a star in the music industry in Nigeria, LND found his year of luck in 2020.
Cracker Mallo
Cracker Mallo (Real name Ayodeji Olatunde) blew into the pop star list of producers when he helped create FireBoy’s hit single: Jealous. Since then he has just been scaling heights in the music industry. Just like LDN, he has found himself working with some really dope artist in the Nigerian musical space. On top of the list includes Olamide, Tiwa Savage and Fireboy. His work on Tiwa Savage’s “Dangerous Love” was widely accepted and grinded to. “Cracker Cracker Cracker” could easily give listeners same effect that “it young Jon the Wicked producer” gave to people when Young Jon newly broke into the limelight. The only difference is the tempo of the sounds they make.
Swaps
Swaps whose real names are Efe Destiney Esuakpor have been in the business of sound engineering for years now but his work on Omah Lay’s first EP was just epic and it did not go unnoticed. The sound Engineer who have remained anonymous for reasons known to him really took the music space in Nigeria in a new level of storm. His work with Omah Lay and 9ice in 2020 created some of the clearest and noiseless mixing that we have heard in a while. Sound engineering especially in the act of mixing and mastering is a serious job which is very important and Sawps just took the game to the next level.
